Venezuela Sends Humanitarian Aid to Cuba

Caracas - Venezuela has today sent more than 300 tons of supplies to help Cuba overcome the ravages of Hurricane Matthew, according to Housing Minister, Manuel Quevedo.
The 327 tons of aid is mainly construction materials to help restore the infrastructure in the eastern region of the country. The aid will arrive in the Santiago de Cuba port, the official said.
Quevedo noted that the aid was part of the executive's reserve for housing missions and they were sharing them to show their great solidarity with Cuba.
In addition to the construction materials, about 600 electrical transformers and machinery for the recovery of infrastructure are being sent, the minister added.
The island's ambassador to Venezuela,Rogelio Polanco, thanked the Venezuelan's for their gesture of solidarity.
The devastating category 4 hurricane hit the eastern provinces, with winds of above 200 kilometers per hour, destroying 90 percent of homes and infrastructure in some localities.
Thousands of workers and resources have been mobilized to the most vulnerable places in recent days to deal with the situation.
The Venezuelan government previously sent several loads of humanitarian aid to Haiti, where Hurricane Matthew killed around 800 people and left severe economic loses.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
