Cuban wrestlers to attend Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Cuba will attend with 15 athletes the Azerbaijan Wrestling Grand Prix, agreed from next November 22 to 25.

Luis de la Portilla, Cuba´s national commissioner, told JIT sports publication they will participate with the same group in the Pan American Championship of Frisco, Texas, on March.

"We will repeat with that mix of young and some consecrated figures, and we expect good dividends, already engaged at the beginning of a new Olympic cycle," said the manager.

The list is headed by Greco-Roman wrestler Yasmany Lugo (98 kg), Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic runner up, who will have as teammates in that style to Javier Dumenigo (59), Miguel Martinez (66), Daniel Gregorich (85) and Oscar Pino (130).

The group of athletes in free-style modality includes Eliecer Guevara (57), Yowlys Bonne (61), Alejandro Valdes (65), Livan Lopez (74), Reineris Salas (97) and Yudelmis Alpajón (125).

In addition, women Lienna de la Caridad Montero (59), Yakelin Stornell (60), Katherine Vidiaux (63) and Yudaris Sanchez (69) will compete for the first time in that nation.

In the case of Bonne and Valdes, Portilla noted that despite being inserted in the German League (Bundesliga), they were allowed by their clubs and will travel from the German territory itself.

The Grand Prix to be staged at Baku Sports Coliseum will be attended by athletes from 15 countries, including world and Olympic medalists.
