Santo Domingo - Dominican President Danilo Medina and Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas today inaugurated the Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Community of the Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac, in Spanish) and the European Union.

Yesterday the XLVIII CELAC-EU Senior Officials Meeting at the Convention Center of the Foreign Ministry took place behind closed doors, as a preparation for today's event.

As part of the official agenda, several activities have been scheduled: an internal meeting of foreign ministers of Celac; a meeting between Cariforum and the European Union; a meeting on the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and another on the cooperation of the European Union with ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) countries.

In addition,two other meetings are also scheduled: one on 'Women, Peace and Security' and another on 'Art and Transatlantic Connectivity'.

According to the agenda, an agreement establishing the European Union-Latin America and Caribbean (EU-LAC) Foundation, which will be chaired by former Dominican president, Leonel Fernandez, will also be signed.

Minister Vargas will announce the country taking Dominican Republic's place as pro tempore president of Celac from January.
