Cuba doesn't qualify to U20 Football World Cup

Havana, Cuba - Opposite to what happened in the previous version; Cuba was eliminated in the group stage of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men´s U20 tournament held in Curacao.

The 1-1 draw with Saint Lucia in their last match for Group B denied Cubans the possibility of earning one of the five berths to the CONCACAF finals, agreed for Costa Rica next year, tourney which grants tickets to the South Korea 2017 World Cup.

According to CFU digital site, Darien Guerra put Cuba ahead after 21 minutes, but his teammate Ronald Aranda scored an own goal (84´) at Ergilio Hato stadium.

Later, in that same facility, Haiti, first of this group with seven points, and Trinidad and Tobago, second with five, achieved a goalless draw.

Cubans had to win by trash and expect a defeat of the Trinidadians to aspire to remain in contest, as they debuted with a 1-2 loss to Haitians and then drew 0-0 with Trinidad.

With only two units, Cuba couldn´t either access semifinals as best third seat, honor achieved by Saint Kitts and Nevis, which totaled four points after beating 3-1 the host side in Poole A.

Antigua and Barbuda (7) and Bermuda (4), first and second in that order, also qualify to semifinals for that poole.

The qualifying race finished soon for this Cuban U-20 squad, very different from the previous generation which won the ticket to Turkey 2014 WC.
