Cuban Cinema Mourns Death of Actor Reynaldo Miravalles

Havana - Cuban cinema has regretted today the death of actor, Reynaldo Miravalles, who worked almost until the end of his days because he felt he could not stay away from the big screen, one of his passions in life.

The veteran artist died at the age of 93, due to renal and respiratory complications from several ailments, Granma newspaper reports.

The website of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) remembers today his legacy and several of his main performances in films such as 'Las doce sillas', 'El hombre de Maisinicu', and 'Los pajaros tirandole a la escopeta.'

Although his first artistic expression that called his attention was painting, his difficult economic situation prevented him to continue studying at the renowned San Alejandro Academy. He reached the radio in 1944 and worked from that date in almost all radio stations in Havana.

He debuted in television in 1952 and was awarded as the most outstanding actor.

In his long television career, he played hundreds of characters, including that of peasant Melesio, well remembered by the local public.

He recently filmed 'Esther en alguna parte', along with actor Enrique Molina.

Miravalles lived in the United States during the 1990s, won successes in several countries in Latin America and then returned to Cuba to continue offering his performances to cinema lovers in this island.
