Cuba with Nine Boxers to World Youth Championship in Russia

Havana - Cuba will present nine fighters at the World Youth Boxing Championship in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, from November 17 to 26, with the aim of conquering its 16th crown in these tournaments.

Any of the youths of the team can win a medal, about three gold and seven medals in all, without underestimating the quality of the 400 participants of about 70 nations which will attend the venue, said national Cuban commissioner of the sport, Alberto Puig, in statements to Granma daily.

Russia will be the greatest adversary, said Puig, taking into account that is the hosting country, its historic level in boxing and due to the training of its fighters.

It must not be disregarded that boxers from other traditional countries, arrive with an important amount of duels accumulated, he added. For Cuba will fight Jorge Griñan in the 49-kg division, in 52-kg will be Elio Crespo Santo and in the 56-kg division will be Alexei Rodríguez.

Completing the Cuban team, Raidel Rodriguez will be in the 60-kg división, in 64 will be Damian Lescay, in 69 Isamy Mesa, in 75 Osvary Morrell, in 81Lenar Perez and in 91-kg will be Dainier Pero.
