San Jose - Costa Rican President, Luis Guillermo Solis, has welcomed Cuban ambassador, Danilo Sanchez, to Costa Rica to discuss the progress of the agreements signed one year ago between the two countries during a visit by the Costa Rican president to Havana.

The exchange of trade delegations and the promotion and identification of areas for investment, especially in the Cuban tourist sector, as well as negotiations between ministries and the field of biotechnology, were stressed during the meeting.

The visit of a group of Costa Rican researchers to participate to the international biotechnology congress and the Biocubafarma complex, was also mentioned.

Other sectors analyzed by the President and the Cuban ambassador were agriculture, sports, culture, tourism, health, education and livestock and the purchase by Costa Rica of new Cuban medicines such as Gavac, a vaccine for controlling ticks.

The banking sector was also discussed due to the recent visit to San Jose of the president of the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC), Ernesto Medina and another delegation of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

The Cuban ambassador thanked the Costa Rican government for its support for the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and the reference to the issue made by President Solis at the recent United Nations General Assembly.
