Moscow - Russian television yesterday highlighted the tribute made by the Cuban people to the late historic leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro and the presence in Havana of an official delegation from Russia.

The television channel NTV said that near one million people went yesterday to Revolution Square, in the Cuban capital, to participate in a memorial service dedicated to Fidel, in which leaders from dozens of countries and international figures spoke.

NTV also said that service took place before the funeral procession that will carry the remains of the Cuban Commander-in-Chief through the length of the island to the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

NTV also asserted that delegations from dozens of states arrived in Havana, including the Russian delegation, which was led by the president of the Russian State Duma (lower chamber) Viacheslav Valodin, who signed the book of condolences in the Cuban capital.

The television channel also referred to the visit, yesterday, to the Cuban embassy in Moscow by ministers of defense and of foreign affairs, Serguei Shoigu and Serguei Lavrov, respectively, to pay homage to Fidel Castro.

They also highlighted that yesterday, members of the Council of the Russian Federation opened their working session with a minute of silence to honor the Commander, as the historic leader of the Cuban revolution is known in this country.
