Latin Athletes of the Year Mijaín and Ibargüen says Vietnam Daily

Havana - Cuban wrestler Mijaín López qnd Colombian triple-jumper, Caterine Ibargüen were selected today by the Vietnamese newspaper People''s Daily as the Best Athletes of the Year in the Prensa Latina news agency survey.

Lopez, who conquered his third Olympic title in the division of the heavyweights of Greek-Roman wrestling in the Rio de Janeiro-2016 games, totaled his sixth vote in the ballots to escort the Jamaican meteor Usain Bolt, leader with 23 votes and Argentinean tennis player Juan Martin del Potro (8 votes).

Ibargüen, first Colombian to be crowned in a five-rings competition, was consolidated as main candidate among women

Ibargüen, leads women candidates with 15 votes in her favor, followed by Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson (9) and Puerto Rican tennis player Monica Puig (8).

In the category of Best Team, People's Daily gave its vote to Chile's national men's soccer selection, monarch of the America Centennial -to consolidate its third place with six votes, following the Brazilian soccer team (m) with 17 votes and the Argentinean hockey team (m) with seven.

Among the Outstanding Sportspeople, the Vietnamese daily voted for Bolt, Argentinean judo player Paula Pareto, Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramirez and Elaine Thompson of Jamaica.
