Three-times Cuban Olympic Champion Felix Savon Receives AIBA Award

Bern-The three-times Cuban Olympic champion and six-time world champion Felix Savon has been recognized in the Swiss city of Montreux on the 70th anniversary of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).
The outstanding Cuban boxer was included in a star quatrain, which also comprised, Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko, Indian Mary Kom and Frenchman Brahim Asloum, during a gala and awards ceremony.
The award granted to Savón was conceived to recognize the personalities that have honored the sport by their achievements, said an AIBA statement.
When Savon retired in January 2001, he had fought 360 matches, of which he had won 342, 213 of them before the fight time limit (22 by knockout, 24 RSC-H, 100 RSC, 60 by default and seven by disqualification); 18 for failure to file the contrary; 111 by points. He only lost 18 fights, half of them against Cuban boxers.
Savón was 13 times national champion, 12 times in row, and also won four Central American and Caribbean Games, three Pan American Games and four World Cups.
Cuba also took another award through Osvary Morell, world youth champion, who was chosen as the best competitor in the light heavyweight category played in a tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia.
