France Reinforces Security over Weekend

Paris- More than 91,000 police officers, gendarmes and soldiers were mobilized on Saturday in France to ensure security during Christmas celebrations, Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux said.

According to the minister, the deployment of troops will be carried out during the end-of-year celebrations and mainly over the weekend to prevent any risks of attack, as the state of emergency is still in force after the terrorist threat.

After last Monday's on a Christmas market in Berlin, where 12 people were killed and 48 were wounded, France decided to reinforce security measures on its own territory.

According to government spokesman Stephane Le Foll, several preventive arrests were made to 'prevent, on the basis of the information available, any risks of possible attacks'.

Another decision made by the Interior Ministry involves tightening controls on the borders with Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg, as well as at several train stations connecting Paris with other European cities.

However, despite all these measures, the Berlin attacker succeeded in arriving and leaving France in recent days on his way to Italy, where he was intercepted and shot to death by the national police.

After confirming this information thanks to a train ticket found in the belongings of the individual, who was identified as Anis Amri, several politicians and analysts have questioned the effectiveness of security measures.

In this regard, the minister avoided making comments and called for prudence in handling information on the subject. He stated that France will work along with German and Italian authorities to clarify the events.
