Vietnam Celebrates the 58th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

Hanoi, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) The 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution was celebrated in Ho Chi Minh City, a ceremony that highlighted the high level of relations between Vietnam and the Caribbean country, including the strengthening of cooperation.
Nguyen Thi Thu, vice-president of the People's Committee of that southern city, conveyed her condolences 'to the Cuban friends' for the death of the revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, to reports from the territory indicate today.
The official also stressed that bilateral ties have maintained a steady growth since its official start, on December 2nd, 1960.
In this regard, she exemplified that Vietnam is one of Cuba's main economic partners and its largest supplier of rice, while the Caribbean country cooperates in transportation and biotechnology, among other sectors.
In the ceremony for the revolutionary triumph of January 1st, 1959, held yesterday, the Consul Bernabe Garcia emphasized that the friendship between these nations has passed the test of time and has been maintained during the wars and ups and downs of the international situation.
Referring to the future, he said Cuba wants these relations to deepen and provide practical benefits for both peoples.
Bilateral ties have among their immediate background the official visit that President Tran Dai Quang made to Havana last month.
Several actions were then taken to strengthen ties, with special emphasis on areas where each country has potential and advantages to complement, such as trade, agriculture, science and technology, telecommunications, radio and television, according to a joint statement.
