Managua Hosts Latin American Left-Wing Agreement

Managua - Nicaragua is hosting today a meeting of the working group of the Sao Paulo Forum, called to articulate a programmatic platform that contributes to the development of progressive and revolutionary processes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

About 40 representatives of leftist parties and movements from more than 10 nations of the area are attending the meeting, whose aim is to strengthen unity and counteract the new neoliberal offensive that threatens integration.

Cuba's First Vice President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, said here during a meeting with the delegates that this is a very complex time, where a platform of capitalist and neoliberal restoration that unfortunately has gained some spaces has been present.

The first vice-president also stated that his country has attached great importance to this kind of meeting, from which policies can be articulated, in consensus, in defense of integration, sovereignty and independence of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Today's meeting is conducive to the debate around the document 'Consensus of Our America', projected and enriched in previous meetings.

Diaz-Canel received the text, dedicated to the example of unity and internationalism that Fidel Castro represented.

This consensual document is considered an instrument for the defense of progressive governments in face of destabilizing campaigns of imperialism, in complicity with national oligarchies.

Nicaraguan legislator, Jacinto Suarez, said his country and the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) support today more than ever the efforts for the unity of the Latin American left, regarding the policy pursued by that goal.

'The document Consensus of Our America is a form of agreement, unity, meeting, coincidence of the Latin American and Caribbean left, and is within the framework of what the traditional policy of the Sandinista Front in all its history has been, Suarez noted.
