Thousands of Professionals Attend Congress 'Pedagogia 2017' in Cuba

Havana-The working sessions of the International Congress ''Pedagogia 2017'' are continuing sessions today at the Conference Center in Havana, with the attendance of some 3,000 professionals, more than two-thirds are foreigners.

This participation in the 15th edition of the great event confirms it as the most important meeting of its kind in the region, organizers say. During the opening conference 'Pedagogical Congress: Source of unity and hope', Cuban Education Minister, Ena Elsa Velazquez, began this meeting that has been held in Cuba since 1986.

Velazquez also referred to the history of the Congress 'Pedagogia', whose first edition dates back to 1986, and recalled some of the main achievements of these conclaves, which have also used to foster unity in the region.

Today's special panel deals with: 'Fidel Castro, educator of hope', in which Brazilian theologian, Frei Betto, Venezuelan Education Minister, Elias Jaua, and honorary president of the Association of Cuban Pedagogues, Lesbia Canovas, will participate.

The program of the event also includes a special speech by Jordan Naidoo, Director of the UNESCO Division for Education 2030 Support and Coordination.

Among the activities of 'Pedagogia 2017' are courses, specialized visits to Cuban educational centers of different teachings, symposia and special lectures of personalities such as Nobel Peace Prize 2014, Kailash Satyarthi.

'Pedagogia 2017' will be held until February 3rd, when about 775 Cuban delegates and more than 2,000 foreigners will conclude their activities at the congress, focused on teaching and training, and the most important in Latin America and the Caribbean, Cuban Deputy Education Minister, Cira Piñeiro, said.
