Rescuing the local Community Culture

They keep a live closely stick to the countryside traditions not only in the essential comfort. However, they are not hermits, they are actors who rescue the most ancient ways of the Cuban countryside, while they design some artistic proposals as a way to be part of the population by establishing some closed links with the local community.

They are part of the local Teatro de los Elementos theater group that is located on the roads which leads to the Cumanayagua Mountains in Cienfuegos province.
They live as humble as the countryside people. Moreover, their vocation is precisely living together, along with nature. That makes different their artistic proposal due to their interaction with the local community as well as their reciprocal exchange relation that enables the mutual enrichment.
The rescue of the popular memory is one of those group´s strengths as it was acknowledged by its founder and director, Mr. José Oriol González:

Rescuing the local Community Culture

“I am in the same site where I was born by watching the same creep and I am feeling that its is a right I have gained which makes me the happiest man of the human beings due to I can take the theater into the life of the community where I have always remained.”
The community work is the main goal of the local Teatro de los Elementos Theater group and it makes official through its daily work carried out in the local El Jovero country settlement given it is its main source of employment.
Nevertheless, its action covers other rural communities given the local Oralidad Cumanayagua Cuenta Biennial event is one the most important events.
Created in 1990 and after an itinerary throughout some towns of the Cuban archipelago, the Local Los elementos theater group got to lands of the grandfathers of its creator in Cienfuegos province in 1996. The current director, José Oriol González, who states that its name was given due to the water, earth, air and fire elements, allows the possibility of carrying out a theater language.

A well-conceived project by that theater group is the one entitled ´Por un desarrollo cultural sostenible ´ through which it includes children, teachers and social officials in general to the carrying out of artistic education workshops, along with the participation of the local schools from Jovero region and the Entronque Minas community which is another of the communities that is near to that group´s permanent venue and one of the most commendable community projects.

Rescuing the local Community Culture
The aforementioned theater group is featured by a most closed an united relation with nature, taking care of the soil and trees and in spite of it has carried out countless positive actions for the development of the communities . They keep trying to rescue and preserve the history of those Mountain regions.
That characteristic nurtures its related creative processes by being supported by the nature and its four elements: water, air, earth and fire which that theater group continues defending in their venues in Joyero and Cumanayagua in Cienfuegos province.
