Cuba, USA Surgeons Attend Laparoscopy and Robotics Workshop

Havana - Surgeons from Cuba and the United States are exchanging the latest techniques in laparoscopy and robotics, at a workshop opened here today, focused on the three specialties with the greatest results in minimal access surgeries in Cuba.
The workshop entitled ‘Update in laparoscopic surgery and robotics', sponsored by the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery, will discuss Cuba's progress in the use of this technology in the fields of urology, gynecology and general surgery.
With about 120 centers of this kind throughout the country, the institution leads the projects of introduction and generalization of laparoscopic techniques and other fields of minimally invasive surgery, Tania Gonzalez, president of the organizing committee and secretary of the Cuban Society of Urology, told Prensa Latina.
Considered a leading entity in the training of this kind in the country, it also advise doctors of the region. One of the objectives of the meeting is to update ourselves in these techniques and exchange with prestigious colleagues in this field, she emphasized.
American Vipul Patel, Medical Director of the Global Robotics Institute, Celebration Health, who has more experience worldwide in the field of robotic surgery, will be present.
He will also be accompanied by American, Caetano Ciancio. He is recipient of the Brandon and Kyle Simonsen Endowed Chair in Transplant Surgery, and director of the Miami Transplant Institute.
About 60 urologists, surgeons and gynecologists dedicated to minimally invasive surgery and the infertility program in the country, are attending the two-day meeting at the Hotel Nacional in Havana.
