Camagüey, Cuba - ''Entre cielo y tierra, Mireya Luis'', a biographical book on the former volleyball player from Camaguey, Cuba, will be launched in this central eastern city as part of the literary program for the celebration of the Culture Week.
The book, written by Oscar Sanchez, second launching of 'Vidas' collection by the Jose Martí publishing house, includes a set of stories and anecdotes that defined Luis' training and career.
The Olympic, World and Pan American champion stands out as one of the greatest athletes of all time in Cuba and the world. Luis was three time Olympic winner at Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sidney 2000, with the so-called Morenas del Caribe (the Cuban women's volleyball team).
The Santa Cecilia Conference Center located in the heart of Camagüey, a city declared World Cultural Heritage, will be the scene for the meeting tomorrow, where the participants will be capable of knowing in detail about a life story,in which individuals create and reflect the social field, according to the author.
The volume was launched in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, as well as during the last Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro by the International Volleyball Federation.
The program includes the visit of the writer and the athlete to the 'Cerro Pelado' School for Sports Initiation, an institution that helped Luis to take her first steps in volleyball. She was also three time champion at World Cups with the Cuban National team.
