Merkel Calls on EU to Improve Relations with Russia

Moscow - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on the European Union (EU) to improve relations with Russia, at a meeting in Munich with that country''s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, local television reported.
Merkel stated that the EU should seek such an improvement, despite differences in many issues, because, she acknowledged, Russia is also one of our external borders and our neighbor.
I will not stop advocating good relations with Russia, with whom we have common interests in the fight against terrorism and where we can work together, she said shortly after receiving Lavrov before the international forum.
The Munich security conference comes 10 years after a historic intervention by Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he set national positions, very different from the conditions imposed at the time by the West in the world.
Putin warned then that a multipolar world was far from solving humanity's problems, it would only increase them, as was the case with the bombing of Yugoslavia, the aggression against Afghanistan or the invasion of Iraq.
