Caracas - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called for a great popular mobilization for the next Sunday in defense of the homeland and to express rejection before the interfering pretensions of the United States, in collusion with right-wing opposition groups.

The president made the call during a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Miraflores Palace, in this capital.

'23 years after the departure of Commander Hugo Chavez from the Yare prison, I call for a mobilization in defense of the country and national sovereignty. I call for the union of the people before this behavior of the Venezuelan right asking for an intervention of the country,' Maduro emphasized yesterday.

In his speech, broadcast here by Venezolana de Televisión channel, the head of state of the South American nation recalled that 'Venezuela is a sovereign country and has the most democratic Constitution in all of world history.'

For several days, relations between the Bolivarian government and the Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro have been strained. He called for the application of the Inter-American Democratic Charter against Caracas, which has provoked strong rejection reactions in various social movements and popular groups of the continent, in solidarity with Venezuela.

In turn, and in line with the interventionist proposals of Almagro, some sectors of the most reactionary Venezuelan right continue to seek support in Washington to try to overthrow the Bolivarian government, democratically elected in 2013.
