United Nations- The United States took on the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council amid some expectations on US aboutface for the organization, including on the budget sector.

The 15-member UN Security Council, where the United States is currently holding one of the five permanent seats and has the controversial right to veto, will meet next Monday at a closed-door session to set forth the monthly work program.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Nikki Haley will have the opportunity to announce the Council's April agenda with the rest UN-member nations (178) and with the press.

The US presidency comes at a time when the Rep. Donald Trump new administration seems to made up its mind to pare down USA's contribution to the UN Security Council's budget. Such a contribution is currently accounting for 22 percent of total.

Among the expectations in the work program is to know whether Trump, who has criticized the UN and described it as a public pub for having a good time, will participate in one of the activities as president of the UN Security Council.

It is expected the UN Security Council´s official agenda to include some priorities such as assistance to present conflict in Syria, Yemen and South Sudan; at least one open debate and analysis of the current situation in the Middle East, including Palestinian issue.

The new US administration has been a a great stimulus for Israel, after the outgoing one led by Barack Obama, facilitated the adoption of an unprecedented resolution condemning the colonization of the occupied West Bank.
