Landing of Martí and Gómez at Playita de Cajobabo commemorated

Guantanamo - The 122nd anniversary of José Martí and Máximo Gómez’s landing at Playita de Cajobabo, to join the Necessary War, was commemorated with a cultural and political act held at the monument dedicated to the historic event, which occurred on April 11, 1895.
The hazardous landing was reenacted by young people from the municipality of Imías, where Playita de Cajobabo is located.
Also commemorated was the 22nd anniversary of the tribute paid by Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro to José Martí and other patriots at Playita de Cajobabo, 100 years after the expedition landed in Cuba.
The act was presided by Denny Legrá Azahares, a member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and first Party secretary for the municipality of Imías; Emilio Matos Mosqueda, vice president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power; and Zenia Lores Méndez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.
Meanwhile, eight youths were also presented with their Young Communist League (UJC) membership cards by Legrá Azahares and Aliannis Rodríguez Cobas, a member of the UJC municipal bureau.
The tribute also saw the placing of a floral wreath at the foot of the monument honoring Cuba’s independence heroes, as well as performances by trova musician Josué Oliva and actor Eldis Cuba.
We, the people of Guantanamo, reaffirm our commitment to continue honoring the flag raised by Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro 22 years ago on these sands, stated Denny Legrá Azahares.
