Cuban pair wins Malaysian stop of Beach Volleyball World Tour

The Cuban duo of Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez had an amazing debut at the fourth stop in Langwaki, Malaysia, of the Beach Volleyball World Tour, by winning the crown of the event.
The Cuban team, fifth at the Rio 2016 Olympics and 46th in the world ranking, beat 2-0 (21-17 and 21-18) the Swiss pair Schnetzer-Eglseer in the final of this tournament.
Diaz and Gonzalez´s other victims were Americans McKenzie-Dentler, Spaniards Garcia-Mesa, whom they defeated 2-0 both, and Latvia´s Nolvak-Tiisaar (2-1).
Cuba did not participate for about 20 years in this circuit, and its last victory was in 1995, when Francisco Alvarez and Juan Rosell won a phase in Puerto Rico.
Leonides Regueiferos, Cuban head coach, told Radio Habana Cuba, that the beginning of the World Tour could not be better, although he explained that it is "a very difficult circuit" for many reasons, in which adaptation is needed. The task is hard but not impossible. "
According to the program, Diaz, Gonzalez and Regueiferos will travel today to China, home of the next stop, to then compete in the phases of Switzerland and Brazil.
They will also attend the circuit of North, Central America and the Caribbean (NORCECA), especially those to be organized by Cuba, in Varadero, the fourth stage, scheduled to take place from July 14 to 16, and the last stop of the tour from November 16 to 20.
