
Cuban President Raul Castro decorated ten outstanding workers with the titles of Hero and Heroine of Work of the Republic of Cuba, local media reported on Sunday.
Among the workers who were honored with the decorations is Lieutenant Colonel and Doctor Roberto Castellanos, who joined the medical team of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in 2006, and attended to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in 2013, Granma newspaper reported.
Another decorated worker was Brigadier General Jose Amado Ricardo, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, a lawmaker and the secretary of the Council of Ministers.
Cuban singer Omara Portuondo also received the Lazaro Peña Order in the First Degree.
According to the newspaper, that distinction, along with the Lazaro Peña Order in the Second and Third Degrees, and the Jesus Menendez Medal was granted to 47 outstanding workers and four institutions.
For his part, Havana Historian Eusebio Leal received the seal that commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC).
The workers were acknowledged due to the impact of their work in sectors like production, education, research, defense and economy, Granma noted.
