Costa Rica Reports More Cases of Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue
The weekly report made by the Dirección de Control de Vectores (Department for the Control of Mosquitoes) and the Instituto Costarricense de Investigacion y Enseñanza en Nutricion y Salud (Costa Rican Institute for Nutrition and Health Research and Training) says that 25 pregnant women were amid confirmed cases during the aforementioned period, as well as three cases with the congenital damage linked to the Zika virus.
During 2016, some 1,614 cases were confirmed out of 6,835 people possibly infected with the virus, two cases were confirmed with congenital syndromes and two more cases with neurological damage linked to the disease.
The report indicates also that 122 Chikungunya cases were confirmed, an amount fewer than the 1,517 cases reported in the 13 first weeks of 2016, a year that left a total of 3,361 people infected with the disease in Costa Rica.
The report also indicated that 940 Dengue cases were confirmed, which represents a fewer amount than the 6,396 cases confirmed in the first 91 days of 2016, a year that left 22,209 people infected.
