Experts From 24 Countries Attend Hematology Congress in Cuba

Havana - Experts from 24 countries will present their experiences at the 7th Cuban Congress on Hematology, to be held from today until May 12 at Havana''s Convention Center.
Today's lectures will deal about lymphoproliferative syndromes, primary immune deficiencies, coagulation disorders, sickle cell anemia and transplants of mother cells from the umbilical cord.
In the case of transplants, Spanish Doctor Joan García Lopez will give a lecture on medications used in advanced therapy.
Cuban expert José Carnot will speak about Cuba's achievements in transplanting hematopoietic mother cells from 1985 to 2016.
Hematology 2017, as the event is also called, also includes a commercial fair attended by national and foreign companies and organizers.
It will also hold the 5th International Workshop on Hemophilia and other Coagulation Disorders, and the Workshop on Primary Immune Deficiencies.
The 10th Latin American Meeting on Hematology, Immunology and Transfusional Medicine will take place parallel to Hematology 2017.
For the first time, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) will be officially present at the meeting with several papers, organizers said.
They added that the congress would be a platform for Cuba to present its achievements in that field, as a result of the country's investment in new technology to treat and diagnose hematological diseases.
The director of the Hematology and Immunology Institute (IHI), Consuelo Macías, noted that Cuba reports 80 percent of success in treating acute pediatric lymphoblastic leukemia and more than 90 percent in treating acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Havana - Cuba is a nation with a wealth of culture, stated the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, at the inauguration of the 41st International Festival of New Latin American Cinema on Thursday, running through December 15 in this capital.
