Uncertain Situation in Libyan City of Benghazi

Tripoli - Amid conflicting reports of recent fightings between General Khalifa Hatar''s troops and Islamic extremist forces in the Sabri neighborhood, the situation in the Libyan city of Benghazi is now less uncertain.

Haftar's troops assured that with one single death and the support of the aviation, they managed to advance in the strategic town of Sabri, where they reached to break the defenses of the Islamist militias in two places.

These reports apparently coincide with images broadcast on local television.

Medical sources in Benghazi say that about 12 soldiers were killed, which, according to local observers, would not detract from reports on military advances in that coastal city.

Spokesmen of the Muslim extremist militias Majlis Al Shura stated that they were capable of stopping the advances of Haftar's troops in Sabri during clashes, in which 28 soldiers had died.

'A tank and armored vehicle made in the United Arab Emirates' were destroyed in the fighting, they said to media.

Since May 2014, Haftar's troops have attempted to take full control of Benghazi from militias close to Tripoli and, therefore, opposed to the Tobruk parliament.
