Caracas - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro confirmed that elections will take place in the country in 2018.

'There will be presidential elections in 2018 come rain or shine,' pointed out the president on Friday, in light of the demands from violent right-wing opposition groups that insist on violating the Constitution with an early call.

On May 1, the head of State called for a National Constituent Assembly that should foster dialogue among Venezuelans to achieve peace and guarantee an economy that does not depend on oil revenues.

'They know that in 2018, in the presidential elections, we are going to beat them, because in 2018, in Venezuela, there will be presidential elections, come rain or shine. Temer does not rule here, the Revolution rules here,' insisted the president.

Despite the position of the authorities in Miraflores (the seat of government), the right-wing opposition insists on moving forward the elections or nothing, as they demand to justify the violence in the country.

Over the past month, the protests promoted by conservative groups have resulted in more than 36 people killed, more than 700 injured and damage to public and private properties.
