Artemisa, Cuba - The Municipal Sports Directorate in Ariguanabo provides specialized care to different groups, including those suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and obesity.

With the objective of promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles, these groups are given a specialized care by the teachers of Physical Education, taking into account incidence in the population sectors and the characterization performed by the family doctor in each area.

María del Carmen Valdés Hernández, municipal methodologist of the community physical activity, says that the coordinated work with the Public Health Department must be strengthened, regarding the formation of health groups and the characterization of each case. There are still difficulties related to the organization of the groups in the family doctor's offices, to enhance the physical activity in the territory.

The specialist points out that work is being done to promote physical exercise in the community, always with the aim of preventing and providing follow-up to pregnant women, the elderly, diabetic and hypertensive patients. In addition, actions are taken to reduce physical inactivity and obesity, providing educational talks on correct nutrition and healthy eating.
