On June 8th of 2001, five Cuban fighters against the terrorism received an unfair verdict of guilty in the United States, after a long and rigged trial in Miami, the city in which they have never must been judged.

Months later, the injustice was committed through the brutal sentences that were imposed to them: Gerardo Hernández was sentenced to two lives imprisonment, plus 15 years; Ramón Labañino was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 18 years; Fernando González was sentenced to 19 years in prison, René González was sentenced to 15 years in prison and Antonio Guerrero was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 10 years.

Since September 12th of 1998, the Five become in targets of a campaign that presented them as agents who wanted to infringe the American national security; when they really infiltrated themselves in the terrorist groups which operate with total impunity from the South of Florida. The objective of the Five was neutralizing their criminal plans.

Millions of people, in Cuba and in the United States, we owe our life to the altruism and the courage of the Cuban Five. However, in Miami, the longest trial of the American history ended with the fastest verdict.

The case of the Cuban Five sentenced in the United States for fighting against the terrorism, it was kidnapped by the conspiracy of the Northern country with the local media of the press from Miami, in order to sanction the defendant in advance and make impossible a fair judgment.

The conspiracy was based on using the communication media for launching an unfriendly propaganda campaign with no precedents. With this evil target a great number of supposed “journalists” in fact covered agents of the Government were used, who published uncountable articles until producing a storm of hate and disinformation.

During the trial, many times the defense denounced that they were trying to influence the members of the jury through the spreading materials, even those that its presentation were forbidden by the own judge, which only could be given by the District Attorney’s Office.

On August of 2005, the three judges of the Atlanta’s Appeal Court unanimously decided to declare null the Miami’s trial, because it had been made under what they described as “a perfect storm of prejudices and hostility” precisely created by local media.

But when the three judges from Atlanta pronounced the ruling, they didn’t know that the responsible of that “perfect storm” was the District Attorney’s Office. The first piece of news of the Government conspiracy with its paid “journalists” emerged a year later, on September of 2006.

The supposed professionals of the press distorted the facts, showing the defendants as threats for the American society.

The unknown matter by the Cuban Five and their lawyers during the trial, was that journalists from Miami were secretly paid by Washington through the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) its agency of social propaganda, they saturated the media from Miami with pieces of news highly provocative and damaging for the Cuban Five, while at the same time the Government had made its accusation.

On June 8th of 2001, with the pleasure of the anti-Cuban groups settled in Florida, the Five were sentenced to excessive sentences without witnesses or evidences about the imputed charges.

The reality showed that the hate of those who have tried to destroyed the Cuban Revolution for decades was poured into the brave men whom daily risked their life for discover and inform the terrorist plans organized from the United States.

The Five were political prisoners, victims of the savage propaganda against Cuba, generated by their own accusers, the Government of the United States.

During the years of unfair prison, the disinformation, the hiding things and the silence of the adverse to Cuba press media were the principal obstacle faced by the Cuban antiterrorist fighters.

However, as it was sentenced by Gerardo Hernández Nordelo one of the antiterrorist fighters, a jury of millions made justice and a huge wave of solidarity traveled the world demanding the freedom for the Five.

René and Fernando came first to Cuba, after carry out their whole unfair sentences. And on December 17th of 2014, unforgettable date for Cuban people, the light was made with the arrival of Gerardo, Antonio and Ramón.
