Central Bank of Cuba Puts New Currency in Circulation

Havana - The Central Bank of Cuba announced today that it will gradually put into circulation a new metallic coin worth 5 Cuban pesos from July 3.

The piece will be bimetallic of 24.70 millimeters in diameter, with silver rim, gold center and rib split groove.

The obverse consists of a gold center and in relief shows the effigy of the island patriot Antonio Maceo, and the denomination in number (5), with the word 'Pesos', and in the silver ring the legend 'Patria o Muerte', with The year of coinage (2016).

In the reverse side they coined a gold center with the national shield and in the silver ring the legend 'Republic of Cuba', with the denomination in letters (five pesos).

The report notes that the five Cuban peso notes, currently in circulation, remain in effect.
