
Bilbao, Spain - Cuban athletes won six titles, one silver medal and set a new record for the event at the Athletic Meeting in Bilbao, which is part of the preparatory tour for the London World Championships in August.
Runner Rose Mary Almanza won the 800-meter race with a record of 2:00.30 minutes, loweing the contest's record, set by herself last year (2:00.49).
Discus thrower Yaime Perez also won the competition with a throw of 67.50 meters, including two other important throws of 67.28 and 66.10 meters, with only one fault.
Her teammate, Denia Caballero, world champion in 2015, threw the discus at 62.27 meters and finished second. Caballero suffered from intercostal pain on the right side after his fifth throw.
In the men's 400-meter race, Cuba won a gold medal that went to Yoandys Lescay, who crossed the finish line in 46.37 seconds.
Andy Diaz won in triple jump competition with 16.39-meter jump, and Maikel Masso won triple jump test for men after jumping 7.97 meters, while heptalonist Yorgelis Rodriguez won the women's competition and set a personal record of 6.50 meters.
Rodriguez was supposed to participate in the multi-event contest in Rattigen, Germany, but due to difficulties with her transfer she decided to try her fortune in one of her strongest sports.
Cuba also finished fourth and fifth with Reynier Mena (10.26 seconds) and Roberto Skyers (10.40 seconds) in the men's 100-meter race.
