
Havana - Members of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) are preparing the 10th Congress of that organization, in the VIII Plenary Session of its National Committee, which takes place today in Havana.
During this meeting at the University of Computer Science, attended by leaders of the Union, directors of national media and other guests, will be presented and approved the Organizing Committee and the Call for the great meeting of Cuban journalists.
According to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the 12th Congress of the Latin American Federation of Journalists (Felap), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will be held by the end of May, with delegates from 17 countries of the region, including Cuba.
This meeting of UPEC's ruling body between congresses began with a tribute to prominent journalist Guillermo Cabrera Álvarez, who died 10 years ago, who was the founder of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper and the magazine Somos Jóvenes, deputy editor of the Granma daily newspaper and director of the Journalism Institute José Martí.
The present National Committee of the UPEC, presided over by Antonio Moltó, is made up of 62 members, among those elected at the IX Congress in 2013, and the presidents of the provincial and branch delegations, and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth).
