Rumba has ears for everyone

We already knew that Beethoven, in the midst of a total deafness, composed several anthological pieces of his repertoire. We always knew that . But knowing that Beethoven is always Beethoven, one of the great three men in the history of universal music together with Mozart and Bach, then it is logical to pass from our astonishment to the belief of such an impressive miracle.
However, far from that Europe that admired such an exquisite genius, a musical group composed of deaf, hard of hearing and a blind man cause another true astonishment to those who have attended their performances.
This is Rumbansoc group , a musical project from La Matilde neighborhood in Artemisa municipality , led by Emilio Soto, a man who was always liked music, especially drums, and ended up learning his greatest secrets in an absolutely self-taught way.
Soto, who is proud of being "born and raised in Artemisa" and belongs to the Fund of Cultural Property for being also an instrument manufacturer, is convinced that percussion can be felt, even if a person cannot hear it .
Adding this last idea to the fact that Emilio Soto shows generosity and desire to do good things for the others , the rest was to put his heart and determination.
Aware of the great task he had to face , he called a casting to select those who had the greatest ability to join a rumba group. Six members were selected , including him, although the Workshop has about 40 members, as the project is not limited to purely pentagram issues.
The fact that they made their own instruments was getting into the magic of the rumba, its powerful, universal and inclusive language, which has had from such memorable cultists on a planetary scale as Chano Pozo and Tata Güines, to essential promoters such as Juan (Cultura) Ruiz.
At the same time he made tumbadoras, bongoes, utilitarian instruments (perfectly usable as furniture in any place), the spirit and intentions of the atypical group solidified and at last, they performed in the House of Music in Artemisa.
They had a great impact . No one wanted to believe such a miracle. But the miracle was there, in view of all, with nothing hidden under a sleeve or inside a hat. Deaf and dumb persons playing music? Yes! And it is neither a lie or a trick.
They received many invitations to play in Artemisa and in clubs like La rumba no es guaperia , led by Pedro Pérez Larrinaga (El Picua) in Guanajay, as well as in the club of Rumbansoc, every month, held the House of Culture. However, the places for their performance could be much greater.
It did not take too long to get the praise of the "listening musicians", who have seen real greatness in this project, with which they can interact . Eduardo Cordoví , musical director of the well-known Havana Compas Dance wants to performs with this group.
Emilio Soto is proud to have introduced bata drums in Artemisa province , and to have created a system for his special pupils to learn music, as well as to enjoy workshops of percussion and construction of musical instruments, and be a passionate cultural promoter.
He also defends the idea that to practice percussion can be a magnificent therapy, able to increase the social and interpersonal communication in all cases, and in this, of course.
No man or woman deserves to be discriminated on this planet even in our country . Any human being, despite his physical or spiritual limitations, deserves to become part of the community where he lives, deserves to find a decent place within it.
In addition, Emilio shows us on his cell phone a curiosity worthy of becoming "viral" in social networks: in a day of work, while these musicians build the instruments, their tools give off various sounds, with an impressive level of coupling among all, something that they do not expect. Good music ! Amazing!
I confess with all sincerity to the readers: if I do not see the miracle with my own eyes, there is no God able to make me believe it, as it is also a miracle that several deaf-mutes (Reynaldo Sardiñas, Ramiro Chirino and Horacio Betancourt) and hard of hearing as Martin Pedroso can communicate perfectly, through physical contact and the transmission of signs, with a blind musician (Ariel Pérez Pino) and performe on stage with all rigor.
Miracle of nature, how many miracles does it have? Would this miracle deserve a chapter of the popular X-Files? I dont know. But as Prince Hamlet claimed in his intense monologue: "There are more mysteries in the earth and the sky, Horace, than those dreamed in your philosophy."
It would be good to remind all cultural and educational institutions in the province of the need to promote a project as beautiful as this, worthy of being known by as many human beings as possible.
To close for the moment, I can only tell you that this miracle began with the noble and wise idea of Emilio Soto, discovering in people called disabled an extraordinary ability to play rumba, at any time and under any circumstances, and show them - that the world is also built for them.
