Barbados: Youth Participation in Carifesta Festival Promoted

Bridgetown - The Caribbean Arts Festival (CARIFESTA) in its 13rd edition will receive young people of the region as a vital part of its program, organizers said here Monday.

Ruth Blackman, permanent secretary of the Barbadian Culture, Sports and Youth Ministry, said that expect they take Carifesta to another dimension, from August 17 to 27.


During the presentation to the press of the Youth Talk at CARIFESTA Youth Village, Blackman added that the design of a particular agenda devoted to more novices was always between the organizational budgets once Barbados was chosen as head office of the summer event.

As she told reporters, the particular meeting will be organized by the Barbados Community College and it must assemble dozens of young people of the Caribbean Sea in its emplacement of Eyrie Howell's Cross Road for several workshops, meetings, mentors' programs, campaigns of interactive publicity and exhibitions.

The official added that the festival will be dedicated the same way to the handmade industries and of products related to the culture of its country.

In this order, she underlined that from the point of view of the social development, the arts were going beyond the entertainment, since it was much more tangible and could develop more than the persons can imagine.

In the beginnings of July, the same portfolio emphasized the encouraging answer of tens young interested parties in taking part like volunteers in the cultural appointment, who will join more than 60 community groups entrusted to produce their own events.

Since 1972, the Festival of Arts of the Caribbean Sea assembles writers, artists and musicians of the region, which production is related to the folk and cultural trends.
