Cuban Almanza a Possible Finalist in 800 Meters (f)

London - Cuban female athlete Rose Mary Almanza is classified for the semifinals of the 800 flat meters for ladies in the 2017 edition of the World Championship in London.

Since now, Almanza already states she will give her best to be at the winners'podium.


In her statements to Prensa Latina, Almanza confessed she was 'in an incredible shape' for the most decisive part of the competition.

To win her ticket to the semifinals, Almanza reached the finish line in the 2nd position of the 3rd classification heat, with a record of 2:01.43 minutes, behind London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 OLympic Champion Caster Semenya (South Africa) who finished with 2:01.33.

'It is always good to run next to Semenya, I liked very much to be included in her own classification heat, somehow, she pulls you on. I felt myself very safe of my possibilities and in the end, the result went out for good', Almanza said.

Distributed in three heats and with 24 candidates in competition, the semifinals of the two laps to the oval will be disputed Friday at in the Olympic Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

For the title, on Sunday, last day of the World Cup, the occupants of the first two places in every semifinal, in addition to the two best times, will go to the finals.
