Cuban Despaigne hits its 28th homer in Japan

Cuban Alfredo Despaigne plays for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the Japanese Professional Baseball League

Cuban Alfredo Despaigne, who plays for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB), has been on fire after hitting six home runs in the current month and now totals 28 in the season, amount never before achieved by him.

On Sunday, the slugger blasted his 28th homer and drove in three runs at Sendai´s Kobo Stadium to help his side to beat 4-1 the Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Now, Despaigne ranks second among homerun leaders, tied with teammate Yuki Yanagita, and behind American Brandon Laird (29), who plays for the Nippon Ham Fighters.

August seems to be favorable for the Cuban player as in 2016 he hit 8 homers in that same month.

However, last May he surpassed that amount when hitting ten HRs with 26 RBIs, to reaffirm himself as one of the offensive stars of the Hawks, who hired him for three years.

During his first three NPB seasons, he has played 282 matches, with batting average of .277, product of 280 hits in 1,010 ABs, with 156 runs scored and 187 RBIs, 56 home runs, 58 doubles and a triple.
