Looking with the viewer eye of culture as a concept of the trace left by man as he passes through life, it is inevitable in San Cristobal township , where the dramatic arts, sculpture and literature, found the way to remain in history in its immaterial way.
It is not about monuments, theaters - by the way, already deleted of this environment -, nor about books on the areas of Chirigota and Bermejales, and very near this one at local portion of Sierra del Rosario Mountain ; the matter goes further, they are women and men of worldwide known related to these places. It could be said that natural charm influenced.
That is the hometown of Lilia Jilma Madera Valiente (September 18, 1915-Havana, February 21, 2000). The creator of El Cristo sculture , symbol of the Cuban capital and the bust of Jose Marti, placed at the highest summit in Cuba, just to mention two of his creations within the so-called public sculpture, grew in La Victoria farm.
Only 10 years later, on May 18, in the very near fields of Chirigota, María Teresa Sánchez was born , a woman whose beauty made her for all her contemporaries in "Muñeca Sánchez" and the talent made people call her Carmen Montejo, an artistic name which she acted in more than 70 films and some 30 novels, not including plays and radio programs, until his death in Mexico on February 25, 2013.
For the lyrics, the site was once a refuge for the Uruguayan-Cuban writer Daniel Chavarría, National Prize for Literature 2010. At the opening of XXII International Book Fair Cuba 2013, the prolific author confessed "old inhabitant of that place with the heart ".
He said that among his "crazy" youth, he had a house in the area of Bermejales, where he lived more than a year in search of solitude to write La sexta Isla book.
"I always loved the overflowing Pinar del Rio landscape " (today in Artemisa province). "I know him as few; I have visited wild fields in mountains, from San Diego de los Baños to Bermejales, distance of 14 kilometers that I remember joy enchanted. "
Locating the right site where Chavarria once settled from noise, can mark another one of the investigations of Culture management in the municipality.
Just a little further west, in Aspiro, Ballestena estate is located , one of the few places visited by José Martí in western Cuban; there was also the botanical garden of the relatives of Carlos Sauvalle and Blaín, the friend of our National Hero.
All this culture , studied as it has been done with the footprint that was closest to the rocky sites during the October Crisis of 1962, brings the challenges of preserving them without ceasing to follow the smallest memory of the intangible wealth of some lands touched by fame.
