Two over-60 cyclists to ride 600 kilometers to homage Fidel Castro

Cienfuegos, Cuba - Under the slogan "We will always remember you Fidel", two over-60 cyclists from Canada and Cuba will cover over 600 kilometers between Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba cities to visit the tomb of the Commander in Chief.

Canadian Gholamreza Fargot and Cuban Rafael Angel Fuentes will depart today at 7 am from Cienfuegos city and will make the trip in stages for six days, with the aim of honoring the historic leader of the Cuban revolution.

Fargot, 66, who has been living in the Caribbean island for four months, said that with this tour he will show the world his love for Fidel and Cuba, and he mentioned his desire to perform the same race each year in evocation of the Commander.

In coming seasons, I will invite friends from Italy, France, Switzerland and from all nationalities to join this initiative, although we will change the departure date, with the aim of arriving in Santiago on the day of Fidel's birthday, on August 13.

Meanwhile, Fuentes, who is 69, was member during his youth of the Cuban national squad and participated in 12 Cuba International Tours and in 1972 he attended the Mexico Tour.

We are very grateful for the attention given to us by the Cuban Friendship Institute in Cienfuegos and we know that we will receive the same support from the delegations of that organization in all the provinces we are going to cross, Fuentes said.

In addition and under the slogan "Following Fidel´s footsteps", a group of Canadians will tour Cuba by bike in January next year, to visit the tomb of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
