IAAF Announces Finalists for Best Athlete of the Year 2017

Monte Carlo -The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) today announced the finalists for the Best Athlete of the Year 2017 in both sexes, whose winners will be announced on November 24.
Among the men, the nominees are the high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim from Qatar, the long-distance runner Mo Farah from the United Kingdom, and the sprinter Wayde Van Niekerk from South Africa.
By its part, the ladies included the Greek pole vaulter Ekaterini Stefanidi, the Belgian heptathlete Nafissatou Thiamla and the Ethiopian long-distance runner Almaz Ayana, the latter winner of the award in 2016.
According to the IAAF, the prizes are decided, in a first phase, by a vote of the athletes and the fans that ended on October 16, and the final decision will be known during the Awards Gala of the agency scheduled for the aforementioned date.
