Havana -The use of new technologies in the current communicative scenario is focusing today the second day of the 9th International Meeting for Researchers and scholars of Information and Communication (ICOM).

During the opening ceremony held yesterday at the Conference Center in Havana, the debate focused on the role of communication in the development management.

The dean of the Communication Faculty at University of Havana and president of the organizing committee of ICOM, Raul Garces, stated that the current informative context forces to rethink the academic training and designs new models of insertion of university graduates. He said that managing the development of the multiple tools communication offers is essential to achieve social transformations.

During the opening ceremony of ICOM, French journalist and writer, Ignacio Ramonet, said that maintaining vigilance over information platforms on the Internet and its main search engines is essential.

More than 600 foreign and Cuban delegates are participating in ICOM with more than 340 papers.

They will talk until November 17 about the Cuban development model and the role of information in the future of the island, among other issues.

The motto of the meeting is: 'Society, working environments and university: transdisciplinary views from information and communication'.

The ICOM agenda includes lectures by personalities from France, Argentina, Spain, Bolivia, Great Britain, Uruguay, Portugal, the United States and Brazil.

ICOM is organized every two years by the Communication Faculty at University of Havana and its first edition took place in 1996.
