Havana Celebrates 498 Years with Historical Riches Restored

Havana - Next November 16 will mark the 498th anniversary of the foundation of Havana with a part of its archaeological history rescued and exposed to the public, announced today the historian of this city, Eusebio Leal.
Havana played a leading role in the history of navigation, culture, the great dispute in the Caribbean for the distribution of the world, recalled the Doctor of Historical Sciences and Master in Archaeological Sciences during a meeting with the press in El Templete building.
In that Greco-Roman temple was celebrated the first mass in 1519. Being one of the first towns founded in America, Havana is among the historical cities and oldest capitals of Cuba and the continent.
The persistent rain of these days has not stopped the restoration work, which has also gathered neighbors and families, state the historian.
As Leal explained, the bells of the Castle of the Royal Force, those of the churches and old bell towers of the city will toll on Wednesday as part of a vigil to celebrate the event the next day, the festivities in honor of San Cristóbal, patron of Havana.
