Cuban Hero Expresses Satisfaction for Visiting South Africa

Pretoria - Cuba''s Republic Hero Antonio Guerrero, one of the Cuban 5, expressed his satisfaction Thursday for the results of his visit to Sotuh Africa, on the collaboration in the sector of construction, and stated that it has been very fruitful.

Guerrero, now vice-president of Cuba's Empresariat Direction Higher Organization (OSDE in Spanish) of Design and Engineering of the Cuban Ministry of Construction, arrived in the South African capital, heading a delegation also formed by Rubi Despaigne, president of the Caribbean Union of Enterprises (UNECA), which is directly linked to the Cuban collaboration in the South African construction sector.

In an interview to Prensa Latina, Guerrero made a review of his many activities in South Africa, and said that the context was different from the one he did two years ago with the rest of the Cuban Five.

Guerrero, together with Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González toured in this occasion five provinces where they received the fondness and respect both from the authorities and from the people of this nation.

He said that the general objective of the visit was to express the South African authorities that they have the direct link with this collaboration in the construction sector.

'We are in the best disposition to continue and widen our cooperation in this country. We wanted to explore what we were doing with other South African provinces in which there is no presence of Cuban cooperators,' he said.

The delegation headed by Guerrero met with two related departmentsof Gauteng, a province in which Cuban collaboration does not exist in the construction sector.

'Here is a sense of which they are sure that the Cuban collaborators are doing very good work in the field of construction and they will go to analyze in a short time, to give us an answer, the possibility of extending this cooperation even in the capital.

Another important moment of the visit that ends tomorrow, was the meeting with the directions of the Departments (Ministries) of Public Works and Human Establishment, that it is the top level where all these projections are defined and financed.

'This was extraordinary, because also in these instances they were provided with reports on the very positive work of the Cuban collaborators and it was repeated that the disposition to continue this Cuban cooperation is supported and in the case that should be necessary, to extend it, he concluded.'
