Be a guajiro, the science of Polo

Fifteen years passed: the guitar waits quietly and the silent voice multiplied in other singers; none so genuine and naive -say that is not pure pun - like Polo Montañez, who died on November 26, 2002, when apparently the only human escaped from a fairy tale also died.

"It's not easy to get out of the shade of a mango bush and suddenly visit Paris," the singer-songwriter from Las Terrazas used to say, in the heart of the Sierra del Rosario, as he took out a piece of roasted pork, wrapped in nylon, from his pocket of his sweater, during a break in the recording studio of Radio Progreso.

For that reason, genuine and naive, because he was not aware of himself: he did not recognize himself as a cultural phenomenon of the masses, even though he integrates the select group of Cubans awarded with two Gold Discs and one Platinum, in a short artistic career, which stopped due to a traffic accident.

In Las Terrazas neighborhood, close to his native land of El Brujito, the museum house lies , with personal objects, photos, melodic instruments, his typical white hat and, among the recognitions and prizes, the replicas of the aforementioned albums, among multiple memories and many legends that, like him, move between reality and fantasy.

Today the memory travels capricious to his death, preceded by a week of vigil of fans of this nation and other countries , pending the evolution after his admission to the hospital Carlos Juan Finlay, after the tragedy occurred on the night of November 20, 2002.

That unfortunate fact put in critical condition the author of A lot of stars, owner of the hearts of the people by dint of modesty and attachment to the daily pictures that inspired him dozens of songs, many without editing.

It happens that the Cuban honors people of honest effort, who with integrity are devoted to a work, especially when in those individuals match the ability to become an idol of crowds and the power to almost ignore it, to live as one more without forgetting his days as a machetero, cow milker and tractor driver.

Fernando Borrego Linares was the name of the 47 -year-old artist , resident in his last days in San Cristóbal municipality , and leader of a self-taught septet, with two albums in life, Guajiro Natural and Guitar Mine, recorded under the French record company Lusáfrica.

He sung with artists such as Rubén Blades, Andy Montañez, Margarita Francisco, Cesária Évora, Cándido Fabré, Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo), Eliades Ochoa, Adalberto Álvarez, Danny Rivera, Gilberto Santa Rosa and others. Colombia declared him Illustrious Son, and years after his physical disappearance, his theme Flor Pálida, walks the scenes of the world in the privileged voice of Marc Anthony, while Ady García, his last wife and the one inspiring that song , discreetly listens to the pact tacit with the simple spirit of the singer-songwriter who one day loved her.
