New Delhi - India and Cuba have signed a memorandum of understanding today to promote bilateral health ties, which include training and exchange of experiences, as well as the acquisition of pharmaceutical products.

The document was signed during a ceremony held in this capital by Cuban Health Minister, Roberto Morales, and India's J.P. Nadda, who highlighted the importance of it.

After participating in the event, Morales thanked the Asian nation for the solidarity and support to the Caribbean island after the recent passing of Hurricane Irma.

The memorandum will expand medical cooperation between the two nations, he stressed.

The document provides for the exchange and training of doctors and health professionals, as well as the acquisition of equipment and pharmaceutical products, and the promotion of opportunities, among other aspects.

As part of his two-day visit, the Cuban minister met separately with Indian Minister of Natural and Traditional Medicine, Shripad Yesso Naik, and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu.

Morales also expects to visit tomorrow the Indian National Institute of Medical Sciences and the National Institute of Ayurveda.
