Thanks to the solidarity of Cuba, Venezuela and other countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America-Peoples Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Dominica is recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane María , Jan Douglas, Minister of Trade, Energy and Employment of that country, assured in Havana today.

Douglas remembered that the islands of the Caribbean suffered the catastrophe of two powerful hurricanes - Irma and Maria- that caused devastation of magnitude never before seen in the area.

He said in statements to the press during the XVI Political Council of ALBA-TCP, which is taking place today in this capital, that Maria affected 95 percent of the homes of that Caribbean island, and there are still thousands of people living in tents or temporary facilities.

Douglas highlighted the help of the Cuban people after the passage of hurricane Maria and thanked Army General Raul Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, for the support and assistance to achieve the recovery of that territory, which it is part of the Lesser Antilles.

The Cuban brothers went to Dominica and are still there collaborating in the recovery of the nation's infrastructures: the restoration of water supply, the distribution of food, electrical networks and others, he said.

He also underlined the gesture of Petrocaribe and Venezuela, which condoned the millionaire debt of their country with the regional hydrocarbon supply mechanism, in response to the devastation caused by the hurricane

What has been done by Cuba and Venezuela is a tangible demonstration of the support that the members of the Alliance provide to their people, 13 years after the Alliance was created, he emphasized.
