The Maternal and Child Program (PAMI) guarantees comprehensive medical care for pregnant women and children in San Antonio de los Baños, which are subject to the joint work of health specialists, according to Dr. Yamilé Borrego Morales, head of the department of medical attention, from the Health Directorate in the municipality.

One of the satisfactions of the PAMI in San Antonio de los Baños is the maternal and infant mortality rate that has remained at zero for some years. This constitutes a challenge to elevate the control and monitoring to the pregnant women. Borrego Morales pointed out that low birth weight is an indicator that still has difficulties. Hence the need to increase control from the basic health groups in each family doctor's office.The official highlighted the importance of the bodies and mass organizations linked to the PAMI, which give it an intersectoral character. On the other hand, she referred to the maternal home as a strength for the program; there pregnant women receive specialized treatment, foreseeing risk factors that endanger the lives of babies and mothers.
