Cuban New Council of Ministers to be Announced in July

Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel proposed today to postpone the presentation of the Council of Ministers for the next session of Parliament, scheduled for July.

The initiative was unanimously supported by the deputies of the newly installed 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of Popular Power.

The first vice president of the Council of State of Cuba, Salvador Valdés, was also appointed first vice president of the Council of Ministers.

President Díaz-Canel's proposal received the support of the plenary of the 9th Legislature.

Diaz-Canel recalled in the Palace of Conventions of this capital that the Constitution does not force the same person to occupy both positions, but it has been a practice in the Greater Antilles.

Cuba's artistic and literary movement rejects Vargas Llosa's lies

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) issued a statement on Tuesday rejecting recent remarks by Peruvian-Spanish writer Mario Vargas Llosa, in which he blamed social outbreaks in the continent on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and promoted an internal uprising in Cuba.

One of the actions, in correspondence with this objective, is aimed at exchanging ideas on the current perspectives of contemporary Cuban animation, which takes place at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños, from 9 to December 13th.

Abel Prieto appointed president of Casa de las Américas

Havana - Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto was appointed president of Casa de las Américas, the center's website La Ventana reported today.

Prieto, former minister of Culture and currently serving as director of the Marti Program Office and president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was nominated for the post by Alpidio Alonso, current Culture Minister.
