Havana - The president of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, arrived in Havana Thursday evening on an official visit.

Abbas, who also leads the Executive Committee of the Organization for the Liberation of Palestine (PLO), was received at the Jose Marti International Airport by Rogelio Sierra Diaz, Cuban vice foreign minister.

Abbas´s agenda includes meeting his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, paying tribute to the island´s National Hero José Martí in Havana´s Revolution Square , and on Saturday he will visit the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).

As a sign of the solidarity ties between Cuba and Palestine  90 young people from that country are studying medicine at ELAM.

Cuba is the last leg of Abbas' Latin American tour , which included visits to Venezuela and Chile.

Cuba has repeatedly expressed its support for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement  to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its unwavering support for the right of the Palestinian people to constitute their State, with East Jerusalem as its capital and within the borders prior to 1967.
