Che Lives in Rosario on His 90th Birthday

Rosario, Argentina - On his 90th birthday, Ernesto Che Guevara seems to be alive in his birthplace, Rosario, on the faces of hundreds of youths who struggle for a better world, for a better Argentina, at these convulse times.

And although some right-wing sectors are trying at all cost to tarnish his name and legacy, above all in this city, Che is born and reborn 90 times and more in many who have taken over the banners to fight for the dream of unity and justice, for that Great Homeland.

Rosario is paying tribute to the guerrilla fighter who gave his life and bet everything on a possible better world, to the man who goes beyond a universal image and has become the guide of new generations who want a fair homeland.

In Rosario, in Santa Clara, the Cuban city that keeps his remains, and in many other parts of the world, Che is revered today, 90 years after his birth.

In a joint effort among the Municipality of Rosario, the Argentina-Cuba Solidarity Movement and other institutions, a campaign of tribute have been held since June 2 to celebrate Che's birthday.

Today, at 8:00 hours, local time, at the Monument to the Flag, where General Manuel Belgrano hoisted the national colors for the first time, the Argentinean flag was raised in his honor, in the presence of world-renowned figures like former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica.

Two hours later, at the emblematic square that holds his bronze statue, municipal authorities, members of the Argentina-Cuba solidarity group and several guests, including the Cuban hero Antonio Guerrero, laid wreaths in his honor.

Several events will be held to pay tribute to the great revolutionary fighter, including the screening of documentaries, book launches, exhibitions, lectures and panels.

In addition, a beautiful trolleybus bearing the historic photo that made the Cuban photographer Alberto Korda immortal started traveling the city on Line Q this week.

At the Cooperation Square, a mural that was painted by the artist Ricardo Carpani and that was vandalized by people who tried to erase Che's memory was completely restored.

The tributes to Che in Rosario will conclude on Sunday, when the 16th Solidarity with Cuba Meeting will close.
