Cuban Steel and Mechanical Industry Develops Relevant Projects

Havana - The Business Group of the Steel and Mechanical Industry (Gesime) develops a total of 26 projects which results will favor import substitution and growth of Cuban exports.

Raul Diaz, director of business of that entity, asserted those projects cover the branches of metalmechanics, recycling and steel production and are pretended to be executed as part of a development program until 2030, in statements made to Prensa Latina during the recently concluded International Convention Cuba Industria 2018.

As part of that plan, one of the most significant proposals is an integrated Project to handle solid residues in charge of a joint venture, he sustained.

The social object of the enterprise, still in the negotiation phase, will be that of applying in Havana an integrated system that handles from the collection of solid residues in its origin to transportation and processing, added the official.

The investment, for a sum exceeding the 500 million dollars, will assign part of those solid residuersd to the generation of electricity and the rest will be collected as an input for industry.

Diaz also explained there exists another very relevant project, also in the negotiation stage, on the production of a polymeric fiberglass compound for the manufacturing of rods.

This element becomes a partial substitute of carbon steel bars used in construction, sector of high importance for the national economy.

If it is true it does not have the applications of steel bars, stressed the oficial, it does have a wide array of applications in construction and there are specific buildings where they can be used. Regarding the importance of opening to foreign investment inside the Cuban steel and mechanical industry,

Díaz equally believes this boosts projects on their way to being shaped, as well as for identifying possible partners capable to promote the sector's development.
